Monochromatic Eveningwear

October 27, 2017

Monochrome is the height of elegance. For royalty the world over, it is the preferred style strategy at formal events and state dinners. Its magic lies in the tying together of different pieces into one graceful, unified ensemble. Here are some recommendations for working this look in deep, rich jewel tones for evening. Note that the shorter dresses and skirts may fit longer on you than on the photographed models, as most are very tall. Check out Esteez shells for layering under the sleeveless dresses.

SAPPHIRE

Deep sapphire is a universally-flattering and softer alternative to black. It is even more stunning for evening in sumptuous fabrics like burnout velvet, stretch lace, and duchesse satin.

GARNET

The romantic hue of ruby-red roses is especially luscious for autumn. Bring out the depth of this color by wearing a rose gold brooch on your headscarf, or a bold yellow gold cuff bracelet.

HEMATITE

This softened tone of black isn't just for your charcoal body scrub. Balance the head-to-toe grey look with some amethyst earrings and metallic violet eye shimmer

EMERALD

This is the perfect choice for a sophisticated cocktail ensemble. The vibrancy of the color and the depth of the shade make it versatile from late afternoon into night. Wear it in good health with sterling silver and faux diamonds.

AMETHYST

My personal favorite, deep purple has historically been favored by kings and queens for its double-dye process (blue, then red). It blends in at a modern black-tie affair--a sea of little black dresses--while allowing you subtle individuality.
