Summer is the time for boho chic.
And what better way to channel bohemian vibes than with a bandana?
They're lightweight, comfortable, and flattering.

I find cotton bandanas to be the most slip-resistant. The one pictured above is made of two layers of cotton eyelet fabric. It came in a set of two, along with solid white. It's also available in solid black and floral prints.
Before styling the bandana with a jersey bolero and shell necklace, I made three small tweaks.
First, I cut off the tassels around the back edges using my favorite tailor-point scissors.
Next, I folded pleats on each side just behind my ears, pinned them in place, and carefully hand-stitched the layers together.
Last, I replaced the bandana's ribbon ties with stretchy foldover elastic. I love how elastic gives headwear a snug yet comfortable fit.

I recently used a scrap of tencel fabric to sew a bandana with elastic ties. You can find a similar fabric here. I use this matte elastic for the ties.
