Hat: Himesport / Sweater: WAYF, similar here from Nordstrom
It's uncommon, but looks normal.
It's creative, but stays quiet in a crowd.
And it's 100% wool, but is affordable.
What is it?
A luxury-look beret---priced for mere mortals like us.

Hat: Himesport / Cardigan: Amazon Essentials, XS-6X / Crystal necklace: Etsy
I am positively charmed by the treasure trove of affordable hats I've found online lately.
Specifically ones that are structured, brimless, and made of 100% Australian wool.
Their creative shapes echo the fine chapeaux made by couture hatmakers. They have a contemporary, not overly vintage, look.
While these toppers are artistic, they blend into a daytime outfit. You wont turn too many (hatless) heads.
And where have I found these magical headpieces? Amazon!
Before we dive into the shopping details, we'll start with some designer inspiration.
Then scroll for a 1-minute video tutorial on styling and embellishing the hats.
Let's go!
Princess Kate in a Jane Taylor hat, Sept 2025
Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, also below
Styling and embellishing designer-dupe berets!
Both of the hats featured in the video are available on Amazon under the brand name Himesport.
The material and craftsmanship are way higher than the modest price. (Well under fifty dollars!)
As usual, I did some embellishing before wearing these hats.
To the off-white beret, I added white freshwater pearls. You can find similar ones here. I also added size 11/0 pearl white glass seed beads from Fire Mountain Gems.
On the black hat, I added size 8/0 transparent grey glass seed beads. The ones I used are by John Bead, but these beads from Amazon would also look chic.
For both hats, I used size 10-13 beading needles and Coats & Clark all-purpose thread.
I also added a 7" strip of cotton twill tape inside each beret where it will rest against my forehead. This prolongs the useful life of the hat by protecting it from sweat, makeup, sunscreen, etc. (I also do this on all of my fedoras, cloches, and newsboy caps).
As you can see in the video at 00:14, you can tighten the hat's fit using the adjustable velcro strip inside the hat's outside edge.
Love, love, love!
Here is another great designer-inspired wool beret, also from Amazon...

The navy teardrop hat above is by Lawliet, and comes in a few other colors, including black, pink, and red.
While we're on the topic of this particular brand, I absolutely love their velvet berets...
I love the above beret so much, that I recently made myself a similar one inspired by its shape. I used white metallic brocade from Mood Fabrics. You can find a similar fabric on their website here.

I hope you enjoyed falling down this rabbit hole of fall-winter berets with me.
