Mixing and matching prints takes courage. Especially as a headscarf gal.
Your scarf adds more fabric to your outfit, so you often want to keep the overall look muted.
However, I've recently discovered mainstream brands that offer printed scarves with matching tops and dresses. Yes, the exact same paisley, floral, and geometric prints.
I first discovered this phenomenon with designer label Johnny Was.
Then I noticed a matching scarf and blouse by Olsen at Macy's... then even more options from Ann Taylor, Talbots, and Nordstrom.
I love the visual harmony these combos offer. The effect is regal yet casual.

Let's jump in!
Matching prints
I personally would pick just two matching pieces: scarf and blouse, or scarf and dress, or scarf and sweater.
Just two pieces will make a style statement without looking overdone.
(If you're daring, go for three!)
I recommend styling matching scarf-blouse combos with a neutral skirt, like solid black, navy, or beige. Denim is always a favorite.
Then keep your shoes, bag, and jewelry the same solid neutral color.

Mixing similar prints
Perhaps you've come across two delightful prints that aren't exactly the same. And you have an uncontrollable itch to wear them together. What's a headscarf gal to do?
I recommend mixing similar prints that have two different scales. So, one print is larger than the other.
I prefer the smaller print for clothing, and the larger print for the headscarf. But there's no need to limit your creativity.

DIY Tips
In addition to being a headscarf gal, I'm also fond of DIY. Many of you are too.
Here's how to create your own custom scarf-dress set on a budget.
Choose a dress or top from Walmart or Target, or find a high-end garment on sale. Buy two.
Cut one into a square or triangle, using your favorite scarf as a template. The dry cleaner, or a friend or relative who sews, can finish edges for you.
Enjoy the creative thrill that follows!
