Modest Eveningwear for Spring Celebrations

Hat: Lawliet / Dress: Adrianna Papell (sizes 2-18) / Silk sash: Amazon / Shoes: Calvin Klein

Eveningwear calls for glamour and high drama. Springtime is fresh and light as air. Let's combine the two moods for some smashing spring evening looks.

Modest Spring Eveningwear

Keep reading to discover three versatile modest eveningwear for all your spring occasions. I styled all of these outfits with you in mind: classy coverage, easy care, and affordable.

The garments are all size-inclusive, many from XXS-5X. Most importantly, everything is stretchy and comfortable!

Let's begin with a 30-second styling video.

1. Taupe flocked tulle

Scarf: Vera Bradley / Top: Amazon Essentials (XS-6X) / Skirt: Amazon (XS-3X) / Underskirt: Beautelicate / Pumps: Calvin Klein

This airy tulle skirt is a show-stopper!

It's made of two layers of floral-flocked tulle over a stretchy lining. The outer layer features a black velvety 'flocked' floral print.

The comfortable stretch waistband can be positioned at the natural waist or lower on the hips (photos below). The skirt comes in sizes XS-3X. Size small measures about 31.5" long.

The lightweight sweater is a delightful cotton and modal blend. You can tuck it in, or wear it out with the skirt's waistband positioned at your hips (below).

The sweater comes in sizes XS-6X.

I've styled the skirt over a black cotton eyelet 'underskirt' for added fullness. The right photo below shows the skirt without it.

The accessories

Scarf: Vera Bradley / Beaded headband: Amazon / Earrings: Amazon Collection / Lip stain: Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick, 'fresh papaya'

It's eveningwear, ladies, so let's pump up some drama. In this case, quiet drama.

First: a black braided headband. The seed beads blend with the headscarf, yet make it more luminous.

The scarf is made of a smooth, cool-to-the-touch rayon. It's by Vera Bradley, who knows her way around a punchy yet wearable print. I'm usually too shy to mix prints, but this scarf complements the skirt's velvety florals.

Tidying the skirt hem

Like many delicate tulle garments, the skirt's hem is unfinished. So naturally, it has some loose thread ends (photo 1).

Cutting these ends may cause the seams to unravel. Instead, secure them as shown below.

  1. Insert a yarn needle (like these) under the seam stitches (photo 2).

  2. Insert the loose threads into the eye of the needle (photo 2).

  3. Pull the needle through the seam stitches (photo 3).

The loose ends are now secure! (photo 4)

2. Vibrant blue velvet

Hat: Lawliet / Dress: Adrianna Papell (sizes 2-18) / Silk sash: Amazon / Shoes: Calvin Klein

This velvet dress is a dream!

It's by knockout eveningwear designer Adrianna Papell. The fabric has a pleasant amount of stretch.

The skirt and sleeve hems are finished with an invisible stitch, which lends an elegant touch. And of course, we all appreciate the forgiveness of stretch waist ties.

The dress comes in dark green, apricot, antique rose, and hunter, in sizes 2-18.

The navy velvet hat

Hat: Lawliet

This velvet beret features a flattering cluster of flowers and leaves. Its built-in structure gives it a luxe look and feel. The velvet fabric has a subtle shimmer.

The comfortable cotton lining features a fun paisley print. Overall, the hat seems much higher quality than the price point.

It even was carefully packaged in its own box. (Round of applause from us hat-lovers!)

Its inner circumference measures 23". It doesn't stretch, but has a bit of natural give.

3. Crimson burnout velvet

Beret: San Diego Hat Co / Velvet wrap: Amazon / Skirt: The Drop (XXS-5X) / T-shirt shell: The Shell Station (XS-XL), similar here (XS-2X)

A velvet shawl may be the easiest eveningwear garment known to woman. This kimono-style shawl has a lovely burnout design, and is eager to be your most forgiving friend.

The kimono also comes in pale peach and dark teal.

The pencil skirt is made of a substantial ribbed rayon-nylon blend. It comes in sizes XS-5X.

For a looser fit around the hips, I sized up. I stitched its side slit closed, and there is still room for a comfortable stride.

If you prefer extra length, wear the skirt's waistband lower on the hip (photo below).

I've echoed the shawl's floral design with a 3D flower beret. It's by San Diego Hat Co, and is 100% wool.

For extra sparkle, I've paired the outfit with rose-gold drop earrings and a single pendant necklace.
