Live in Linen All Summer
Updated: Aug 9
"Live in linen all summer," I propose.
I know what you're thinking, so let's get right to it: the creases.
Response: "Rich wrinkles." That's right, linen is supposed to crease. Especially 100% linen.
It's the nature of this luxurious fiber. I consider the creases a sign of authenticity. Plus, its breathability in how weather is unparalleled.
If you're not quite convinced, no worries. Below I'll present you with a linen-blend option that is less prone to wrinkling.
Keep reading to discover three linen (and yes, linen-blend) shirt dresses. They're affordable, modest, and size-inclusive up to 5X. You'll want to live in them all summer, and even into fall.
Let's start with a short styling video.
Look 1: A light blue midi
Scarf: Vera Bradley / Dress: The Drop (XXS-5X) / Belt: Amazon / Bag: Humble Chic / Shoes: Easy Spirit, similar here
This 100% linen dress is easy-peasy and breezy. Literally, I can feel the breeze through the lightweight fibers.
I'm wearing it with a beige rayon half-slip underneath. I also hand-stitched the side slits closed until just below knee-length.
The dress comes in six other solid colors, from sizes XXS-5X. The 'hummus' and 'mango' colorways remind me of Florida beaches.
Look 2: White lacy linen
Hat: Amazon / Dress: Chico's (up to size 22) / T-shirt dickey: TeeNeck / Underskirt: Beautelicate (S-XXL) / Shoes: Calvin Klein
This next shirt dress features a striking combination of white lace and linen. I love the in-seam pockets and self-belt. The sleeves hems have tabs and buttons if you want to fold up the cuffs.
To create a laxi length, I'm wearing the dress with an ivory cotton underskirt. For a closer color match, consider this white one by the same brand.
You may prefer to stitch the side slits closed, and wear a beige half slip.
Please excuse me as I prance around in public, channeling My Fair Lady with a lace parasol. What we do for art...

Look 3: A linen-rayon maxi
This dress is made of a smooth fabric with a fluid drape. The blend of rayon with the linen creates an almost silky feel. The color is a neutral taupe that's universally flattering.
I layered with this cotton underskirt for dramatic yet wearable volume. (You can read about my favorite underlayers for modest outfits here).
The dress has useful belt loops for the self-belt, and two side seam pockets. Gosh I love pockets. I may swap its 13mm buttons for these gold shank buttons, so I can wear the dress to semi-formal events.
I hope these linen dresses keep you cool as a cucumber in the summer heat.
