"One should either be a work of art or wear a work of art," quipped Irish poet Oscar Wilde.

Today I've taken his advice literally.

The blue head scarf: van Gogh's Almond Blossoms

This silk scarf is features the flowering trees from Vincent van Gogh's 'Almond Blossom' paintings. I can see myself wearing this blue head scarf while glazing ceramics with friends, or for an afternoon practicing watercolor techniques in my sun room.

They say listening to Mozart makes you smarter. If so, does wearing a masterpiece make you more creative?

The styling video

Scarf specs and underlayers

The scarf is 100% silk charmeuse, with a luxuriously fluid drape. It measures 63"x17", and has delicately stitched, hand-rolled edges. This is impressive at such an affordable price point.

Underneath the scarf, I'm wearing a beige velvet grip headband, and a pleated volumizer cap that adds soft volume.

The modest outfit

I've paired the polished texture of the scarf with a hard-working shirtdress from New York &Co. This tencel dress, with its snaps and patch pockets, would be right at home in an artisan's workshop.

I've had it for years, mended it countless times, and wouldn't be upset if it soaked up a few splashes of paint.

You can find a similar tencel shirtdress here. This denim shirtdress has a deeper toned, dressier look.

The jewelry, belts, and shoes

Changing up the jewelry, belt, and shoes creates different look each time you wear this blue scarf-dress combo. Switching these accessories can also take the look from day to night.

A white stretch belt and matching wedges bring out the pale tones of the scarf's blossoms. Handmade pearl cluster earrings from Etsy and a multi-strand pearl necklace continue the contrast.

Darker accesssories, like a matching navy stretch belt and flats, bring out the deeper tones of the scarf's post-impressionist tree branches.

Van Gogh gifted his first 'Almond Blossom' painting to his newborn nephew, as a symbol of awakening. Wishing you the same sentiment of renewal, and a day as lovely as fragrant, flowering trees.
