Stunning Sweater & Knit Skirt Sets

Updated: 4 days ago

Sweater: J.Crew Collection, XS-3X / Skirt: J.Crew Collection, XS-3X / Beret: DIY / Shoes: Vionic, similar here / Sunglasses: Foster Grant / Brooch: similar here / Bag: Humble Chic, 'champagne gold'

It's time to dazzle and shine in comfort!

Matching knit sets are cozy and chic. They're perfect for gals who wear a different size in tops than in bottoms.

They flatter you with the same elongated line of a dress. But unlike a dress, you can wear each piece with other garments for more outfit possibilities.

I've searched far and wide to find you the loveliest sweater and knit skirt co-ords. I found a mix of sweater styles: crewneck, collared, turtlenecks, and button-downs. The skirts have a variety shapes and lengths.

The sets have a variety of styles: dressy, casual, prim, and free-spirited. Read till the end for some 'bombshell' options.

First, let's start with a quick styling video!

1. Crewneck Sweater-Skirt Sets

Sweater: Quince, XS-XL / Cashmere skirt: Quince, XS-XL / Shoes: Calvin Klein

Affordable luxury brand Quince makes cashmere separates in a handful of attractive colors. The gray 100% cashmere ribbed skirt I'm wearing above is the softest I've ever felt. It also comes in black, brown, moss green, and oatmeal.

I'm also wearing their cotton-cashmere crewneck sweater. You can find their 100% cashmere crewneck sweater here, and in plus sizes here. I love that it's impressively priced at under $60, and ships for free!

Here are some other crewneck sweater-skirt sets I've had my eye on.

2. Turtleneck Sweater & Skirt Sets

Turtle and mock necklines add extra coziness.

3. Metallic Sweater-Skirt Sets

Sweater: J.Crew Collection, XS-3X / Skirt: J.Crew Collection, XS-3X / Beret: DIY / Shoes: Vionic, similar here / Sunglasses: Foster Grant / Bag: Humble Chic, 'champagne gold'

I love the look of a skirt-suit. But I also want to be comfortable. Read: the 'skirt suit' must have stretch.

Enter these matching separates by J.Crew Collection.

I want to wear them. Every. Day. The metallic gold yarn is literally dazzling.

The waistband has a metallic gold drawstring, and also an elastic band. No need to tie the drawstring tight.

Underlayers

Layering tee: XS-XL here / 1X-3X here / similar half slip here

Since this set is transparent, I layered underneath both pieces.

I recommend wearing a beige layering shell, or a bodysuit that snaps closed. Under the skirt, wear a beige half slip with a lace waistband. This one comes in sizes small to 3X.

You may prefer to wear a layering dress. Consider this midaxi length slip dress, this one from Amazon, or this slinky one by Linear Collection (XS-1X).

If the little errant loops of yarn bother you, don't cut them! Instead, turn them to the inside of the garment. Use this tool, cleverly called a "Snag Nab-It."

Here are two other metallic sets to love. They're affordable at under $200.

4. The V-Neck Cardigan Set

Hat: Betmar / Cardigan: The Drop, sizes XS-3X / Skirt: The Drop, XS-5X / Bag: Humble Chic / Pink silk flowers: Etsy

I love the fabric of these lavender sweater-knit separates. It's stretchy yet substantial.

The following co-ords feature cardigans with similar v-necklines. Note that the navy one is pricey.

The sweaters below feature open necklines. If you prefer to fill them in, find clever tips in my article No-Sew Neckline Add-Ons.

The black set above also comes in a lovely 'English cream' color. How fitting, given that Princess Kate wore a similar outfit.

5. Create your own

Pair this pencil skirt with a turtleneck, or a sleeveless top and cardigan. They come in sizes XXS-5X.

6. Bombshell Sweater-Skirt Co-ords

If you love a vintage 'bombshell' effect, browse vintage skirt suits on Etsy and ebay. The ones below are comfortable for everyday wear.
