Updated: Aug 9
Scarf: Iristide / Brooch: Amazon / Duster cardigan: Rag & Bone, similar here / Black satin sash: Amazon / Clutch: Style & Co / Earrings: Amazon
For most of us, denim is the uniform of daily life.
A denim shirt dress, a denim apron, and queen of them all: the denim pencil skirt.
Denim & Head Wrap Theme: Grape & Gray
In this modest outfit, I've taken a blue-gray version of the beloved denim staple and mixed it with a lively companion: a grape-purple head wrap.

The Video Tutorial
The main focus of every outfit featured here on The Style Underground is the headwear. So that's where we'll begin.
Watch below for a 1-minute tutorial on tying this two-tone head wrap.
Underneath the scarf, I'm wearing a velvet grip headband, a lightweight volumizer cap, and this ruched cap on top. This trio adds subtle volume and keeps the look in place all day.
The grape-purple scarf is a lightweight rectangle by Iristide, one of my favorite affordable scarf brands on Amazon. You can read about my top five websites for scarf shopping here.
At 75" x 43" inches and 100% rayon, it is ideal for wearing as a head wrap. I have it in three other colors and plan to order more.
The black satin sash is from Amazon. It came in a set of three, along with white and dove gray. With its sparkling shades of navy, plum, and fuschia, the wreath brooch adds the finishing touch.
The Modest Outfit
I sewed the gray-blue pencil skirt with cotton-spandex denim from Mood Fabrics. It's based on this dress pattern by sewing gurus Palmer/Pletsch. I also made the necklace and bracelet.
The ribbed duster cardigan is by Rag & Bone, and the purple crossbody bag is by Italian luxury brand Furla. You can find a similar bag here.
I found both the duster and the bag on ThredUp, my favorite online consignment store. Today its automated system told me, "yay, you are a thrift superstar!" I'll take the compliment.
