Blue & White Modest Outfits for a Mediterranean Vacation

Updated: Aug 12

Skirt: Land's End, XS-3X / Top: Land's End / Underskirt: Beautelicate, S-XXL / Visor hat: Jaclyn Smith, similar here and here / Earrings: Etsy / Sandals: Vionic, 5-13 M & W

The sea breeze on your skin, the vibrant blue sparkle of the Aegean sea, the refreshing crunch of a Greek salad.

The Mediterranean islands are as magical as they are mythical. Today, let your mind wander on a pleasant daydream to these exotic locales.

What does a modest gal wear on such an exotic getaway?

So much clothing designed for these locales is revealing. Much of it is only for smaller sizes.

In this article, I'll present you with outfits curated with the modest woman in mind: sleeves, generous hem lengths, and classy necklines.

The looks are also affordable, and size-inclusive from XS-4X. They're all inspired by the blue and white color palette of the Santorini coastline, pictured above.

Keep reading for 4 chic outfit ideas--whether you're a jet setter or an armchair traveler (like me).

Let's start with the styling video.

1. For lunch al fresco

Headscarf: DIY, similar from The Scarf Bar / Long scarf: Melifluos / Tee: Land's End, XS-3X / Denim skirt: Esteez, 0-18 / Shoes: Land's End / Bag: Amazon

A 100% cotton tee, a denim skirt, and water shoes make for a comfortable, casual look. The skirt has stretch and functional pockets.

I love that these 100% cotton Land's End tees come in sizes XS-3X, in misses, petite, tall, and plus. May other clothing brands follow their example!

2. For drinks by the pool

Skirt: Land's End, XS-3X / Shirt: Land's End / Belt: Amazon, 24"-43" / Underskirt: Beautelicate, S-XXL / Visor hat: Jaclyn Smith, similar here and here / Earrings: Etsy / Sandals: Vionic, 5-13 M & W

This matching cotton gauze shirt and skirt from Land's End are breathable in the heat. The crinkle fabric resists wrinkling. They both come in sizes XS-3X, and are also available in solid navy.

Wear the skirt at the waist or the hips, with the shirt tied in the front, or untucked and belted.

I've styled the outfit with this cotton underskirt. It adds subtle volume, plus a cute ruffle peeking out from the hem.

3. For a swim overlooking the sea

Swim top: Land's End (XS-3X) / Swim skirt: Undercover Waterwear, XS-4X / White headscarf: DIY, similar from The Scarf Bar / Sandals: Vionic, M & W / Bag: Amazon

The prints on these rash guards are adorable. Keeping the sun off your skin is so important for your health, especially in this part of the world!

4. For dinner & singing on the boat

Dress: Maggy London, sizes 0-24 / Neckline dickey: TeeNeck / Silk bandana: Amazon / Necklace: DIY with these beads / Rectangular scarf: Melifluos / Sandals: Vionic, 5-13 M & W

This Maggy London dress is a vibrant shade of cobalt blue. It's officially called "princess blue," which is fitting, as you'll feel like royalty as soon as you put it on.

The dress' textured polyester-spandex fabric is wrinkle-resistant. Relax any creases with a handheld travel steamer.

Dress on left: Maggy London / Dress on right: Adrianna Papell (sizes 2-18) / Mulberry silk sash: Amazon

The navy velvet pencil dress above is another travel-friendly option. By eveningwear designer Adrianna Papell, the polyester-spandex fabric is stretchy and resists wrinkling.

You can hide the effects of an all-day gelato and pasta party with the stretchy waist ties. The color, 'deep ocean' is simply electric.

I sized up once in both dresses for a roomier fit around the hips.

The versatile accessories

Scarf: Melifluos / Raffia tote: Amazon / Blue water shoes: Shoes: Land's End / White sandals: Vionic, 5-13 M & W / Navy raffia tote: Amazon / Gold sandals: Sandals: Vionic, M & W

A few sandals in neutral colors can take you from day to night. No need to pack heels. Sandals with metallic or pearl finishes work beautifully for evening.

A solid-colored raffia tote (or two) is perfect for shopping in the villages and collecting treasures along the beaches.

For the armchair travelers

For those of you who will be armchair travelers like me this summer, I hope this article gave you a sense of adventure!

May I recommend perusing The Cyclades: Greek Island Paradise. Its photos are otherworldly.
